The Flag and Fifties Competition, hosted by the 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations Secretariat, has been launched in schools across the island.
This initiative aims to assist with the usual decoration of the schools for Independence, and to ensure that children across the island are equipped with the National emblems at any of the 50th Anniversary of Independence events which they may attend.
Students from each school are expected to colour the templates of the National Flag and the 50th Anniversary Logo, which will then be put on display within their school. Photographs of the displays will then be submitted to the Secretariat for judging and will also be posted to the 50Barbados Facebook page, where members of the public will be invited to vote.
The winning Primary School and Secondary school will not only receive a prize, but will have an opportunity to select a student to lead the nation in the National Pledge at the Historic Garrison Savannah on Wednesday, November 30, at the 50th Anniversary of Independence Parade.
Schools with notable displays will also be invited to select students to participate in the Reveal of the National Monument at the Historic Garrison Savannah on the night of November 29. Prizes will also be awarded to second and third place winners in the Primary and Secondary categories.
Schools interested in participating should submit a photo of the completed display via email to firstname.lastname@example.org, no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016.
To obtain further information on the Flags and Fifties Competition, or to request templates of the emblems, persons may contact the Secretariat at 430-0045.
